Arizona History Day for Homeschoolers
REVIEW OF THE EVENT:
AFHE’s first Airzona History Day for Homeschoolers was a resounding
success! After attending the Arizona History day, over 150 homeschooling
parents and children know much more about our beautiful state than they
did before. We enjoyed seeing a slide show of stunning pictures while
listening to beautiful music. Next we learned about how much our state
has changed and grown from its founding in 1912 through our living history
and other speakers. After a picnic lunch in the courtyard of the Arizona
Historical Society museum in temperate and beautiful spring weather,
we did a hands-on craft, interactive notebook activity full of facts
about our state, and toured the museum to round out our day. Every attendee
left with a goody bag filled with Arizona magazines, resources, a wildlife
poster and Arizona timeline all donated to us. The staff at the Arizona
Historical Society worked hard to provide us with a venue unmatched
for its functionality and beauty. Thank you to the planning committee
and all the attendees who made this one-day unit study on our state
such a valuable learning tool and jumping-off point for further appreciation
for our state. Everyone who attended will undoubtedly be incorporating
some new “Arizona” inspired field trips into their curriculum
plans for next year!
