Support Groups Display Area at the Convention
Information & instructions for displays

Homeschool groups are invited to promote their group at the homeschool convention by creating a display for the Support Groups Display Area.

NOTE: For 2009, the Support Group Display area will be in the lobby of the South Building of the Phoenix Convention Center.

WHO MAY PARTICIPATE?

All groups bringing a display must exist specifically to serve homeschoolers. Groups must have completed the Homeschool Group Listing Application and been approved for listing on the AFHE web site to participate.

Spaces are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis
RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED

There are two types of displays that may be brought ... a table-top 3-panel display or a hanging poster to be hung on a tack board.  There are a total of 24 table-top display spaces available and 6 tack board spaces available. One display per group, please.

TABLE-TOP DISPLAY INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Create a display to tell convention-goers about your homeschool group
  2. Use a 3-panel project display board (can be purchased at craft or office supply stores)
  3. Make it colorful, uncluttered, easy-to-read and professional in appearance.
  4. Be sure your group name, county, and the area you serve are emphasized.
  5. Table space is limited. The side panels of your display will need to be at close to a 90 degree angle to the back - not wide open - so plan to put the most important information in the center panel where it can be most easily seen.
  6. If you have a flier or brochure about your group, include a pocket on the front of your display that will accommodate your flier/brochure. Or bring an acrylic brochure display to set on th table. No loose papers or piles of fliers or other items will be permitted on the tables.
  7. You may store a box of extra fliers/brochures under the table and come back periodically to refill them for your group. Please make sure your box of fliers is labeled on the outside with your group's name. Remember to take the extras home with you. They will not be saved.

TACK BOARD DISPLAY INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. May use foam board, art matte board, or poster board.
  2. Maximum dimensions: 30” wide by 40” high.
  3. Same instructions as numbers 1-4 above.
  4. You may create a pocket on your display for brochures. Use heavy duty card stock or matte board for durability of your pocket.
  5. No space will be available on the tables for acrylic brochure displays for groups creating a display for the tack board. Any brochures must be attached to the display board.

SET UP FRIDAY

Please deliver your display to the convention center on Friday between 8:00 and 9:00 AM.  An AFHE representative will meet you near the Support Group Display area. They will be holding a clipboard, ready to check off that you have delivered your display.   You will need to go to the Registration counter to get your name badge holder and convention program before going into the ballroom for the Keynote Address.   Your name tag is your admission to all areas of the convention, including the ballroom.

TAKE YOUR DISPLAY HOME SATURDAY

Please remember to take your display home with you when you leave the convention Saturday. We'd like the displays to be left up as long as possible so that convention-goers have the most opportunity to look at them, but there is no specific "tear down" time on Saturday for the Support Group Display area.

NOTE: No collection boxes, please

We have had several groups request to do community service project collections (i.e. cell phones, eyeglasses).  This is not permitted at the convention.

Feel free to contact us with any questions or if you need further instructions.
