2020 AFHE Convention Has Been Cancelled
May 10, 2020
Dear Arizona homeschool families,
After prayer and careful consideration, the AFHE Board has determined that the most prudent course of action is to cancel the 2020 AFHE Homeschool Convention and all convention-related activities planned for July 9-11, 2020.
After offering the conference for 36 years straight, this decision did not come easily. We viewed the many components of this decision from the perspective of the following areas:
Although we hoped and prayed that the current COVID-19 pandemic and associated disruptions would have been resolved in time for our convention dates, this is still not certain. With the amount of advance planning, work, and expenses that must go into the annual event between now and the convention, it seems unwise to continue to pour resources into the event we may well be forced to cancel in the end. As a non-profit organization that depends on donations, we especially want to be good stewards of those resources.
With homeschool conferences across the nation cancelling, some vendors and speakers have decided they will not be doing conferences this year or are unsure at this point what they will be able to do. It has become clear that we cannot proceed with the confidence needed to present the event that our community has come to expect.
The Lord has a way of taking challenging circumstances and using them for His glory. We see in this less-than-ideal situation an opening to invest in different ways in the Arizona homeschool community this year, especially new and potential homeschool families. We are already proactively pursuing some exciting new opportunities and events.
We know that you have many questions, and we want you to know that we are listening and we care so much about each one of you. Please be patient with us as we work to present information in a timely fashion. There are exciting things ahead for AFHE and Arizona’s wonderful homeschool community. As a board, we are hard at work planning what the future holds for AFHE and how we can best continue to inspire, promote, and preserve home education in our great state. We are committed to this mission, and we look forward to continuing to serve families on the exhilarating journey of providing children with home-based, parent-directed education.

Exhibitors are a key part of the AFHE Convention and service to the homeschool community. Although we had to make the difficult decision to cancel this year’s convention, we want to provide the list of our 2020 registered exhibitors as a reference for you. We hope this is a helpful resource as you explore the curriculum and resource options available to you in the homeschool marketplace.
