AFHE’s Bill Headed to Governor for Signing

On Monday, April 17, 2017, HB2389 passed the House 41-17 and is on its way to the Governor for signing. By authenticating the homeschool diploma when accompanied by the transcript, this bipartisan bill corrects years of government licensing injustices resulting in lost employment opportunities and demotions for homeschool graduates.

This bill takes policies and rules changes negotiated by AFHE over the past four years and enshrines them into Arizona state law.

This is a huge win in the recognition battle for Arizona homeschoolers.

Our hats off to Representative Rusty Bowers, the bill’s sponsor, and also to Center for Arizona Policy for lending watchful eyes. And special thanks to AFHE Legislative Liaison Tom Lewis for his tireless work shepherding this bill through.

If signed by Governor Doug Ducey, HB2389 will go into effect 90 days after the close of this legislative session.

UPDATE APRIL 19, 2017 – HB2389 was signed by Governor Ducey today!
