3rd Place, 2018 State Science and Engineering Fair
Paul Stokes Du Bose, 14, has been on a journey that started with his FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics team. Paul and his teammates built a robot for competition, and, as a part of the Hydrodynamics themed competition, started researching water for the science project submission. Their idea, using water treatment sludge in cement, won third place at the FLL state championship in January.
Enamored with the idea, Paul did additional research and adapted the project for the Arizona Homeschool Science and Engineering Fair. He worked on the scientific method, made graphs, designed a project board, and practiced his speaking skills. In April he earned a third place state science fair medal, qualified for the national Broadcom science fair, and won prize money! It’s an educational journey that Paul’s mom didn’t expect considering his dyslexia. The excitement and success in competition has developed Paul’s talents and provided invaluable learning experiences.
