Behind the scenes, the day-to-day work of AFHE is handled primarily by a few dedicated, skilled individuals with the help of many volunteers over the course of the year. Katie Hill is a key part of our team and we are so pleased to honor Katie as she celebrates 20 years working for AFHE, lending her experience and gifts as a bookkeeper, administrative assistant, and so many other areas. Her attention to detail, flexibility, and care for the work of AFHE is a tremendous blessing to us all.

In July 1998 I began my 20-year (and counting) journey with Arizona Families for Home Education. I had two children, ages 2 and 4, whom I had already begun to homeschool, and I had recently petitioned God to provide some way for me to stay at home with them. In short order, an AFHE board member approached me at church to see if I was willing to work as an administrative assistant. Little did I know that when I enthusiastically said “Yes!” I was agreeing to work with so many gifted and passionate folks and to be the recipient of grace upon grace from people who love what they do and care deeply for those with whom they work.
On the personal front, these last two decades have brought many joyful milestones and poignant periods of heartbreak in my life, yet AFHE has served as a blessed constant as I’ve done just about every administrative task under the sun. It’s been a great privilege to be part of AFHE as they strive unceasingly to keep Arizona a wonderful place to homeschool.
My oldest children are now grown, and God has seen fit to place me into the lives of three wonderful stepchildren, one of whom I get to homeschool now. I have come full circle, and, as always, AFHE is by my side. I can’t help but think of Ephesians 3:20-21: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
